Kaylee’s Senior Session at Tibble Fork Reservoir

With my camera bag, reflector, step stool, and snazzy blue homemade mask in hand, I excitedly waited for my niece, Kaylee, to arrive for her senior session at Tibble Fork Reservoir. It was just a few days after the governors’ announcement about easing physical distancing restrictions and moving to level orange, and I was PUMPED to be away from home. The only things I’d photographed for the last two months was every tulip and tree blossom on my block, and a toddler who suddenly decided it was no longer cool to look at the camera. (I guess it had to happen eventually!)

Kaylee and her mom (my sister), arrived and we walked in superb physical distancing formation around the reservoir. We passed fisherman, paddle boarders, swimmers, and a slew of photographers as happy as me to be out in the mountains with clients.

It was an absolutely gorgeous day, and Kaylee was so fun to work with! She volume-boosted that hair like nobody’s business and laughed at all my jokes! My favorite part of the whole session was when we walked to the end of the pier and – surrounded by aforementioned paddle boarders and swimmers – Kaylee began to play her violin for the camera. The sun was setting, the mountains were reflecting in the reservoir, and the people around us instantly hushed and turned to watch as Kaylee’s bow danced across the strings. It was so magical. You could instantly feel the change in atmosphere. One of my favorite photos is a profile view of Kaylee grinning and playing the violin. If that image is what playing the violin feels like, sign me up!

Kaylee, I’m so happy we could do this photo shoot and add some sense of normalcy to your senior experience. I can’t believe that you are graduating high school, and I’m so excited to see your life as an adult! I hope your parking lot drive-through graduation ceremony will be special and memorable. I’ll be watching the live stream on YouTube!
